Lum Family Three Dogs

17 January . 2025

With a new baby on the way, the Lums choose Elyson for Katy ISD schools

When Chris and Fallon Lum found out they were expecting their first child, they started thinking about finding a new home and community.

They loved their 1,700-square-foot Victorian-style home in the Heights area near downtown Houston, but with the baby on the way, they realized they’d be needing more living space.

They also wanted a larger yard for their three dogs, (from left) Bella, Cheef and Sable. A quieter neighborhood with parks and trails would also be a big plus.

Most of all, they wanted to get settled in the best school district for their daughter.

For Fallon, who works in the education field with a teacher certification organization, the Katy Independent School District, ranked as the No. 1 school district in the Houston area for 2025, was the obvious choice.

“Our daughter’s education is the number one priority for us, and absolutely our impetus for starting our home search. Katy ISD was a huge pull drawing us to Elyson,” Fallon said.

Chris and Fallon moved into their new home in Elyson in late October, just a few months before their daughter is due.

Their new home will be within walking distance of Elyson’s newest onsite Katy ISD school, Boudny Elementary, opening in August 2025.

They choose the two-story Grinnell plan from Brookfield Residential. With four bedrooms and three bathrooms, it has plenty of space for their growing family. One of the bedrooms is being transformed into a nursery, while another makes a productive home office for Fallon, who works remote full-time.

Just a few weeks after they moved in, we found Chris and Fallon already loving their new community.

“Elyson is very walkable with all the trails and neighborhood parks. We love the quietness here compared to living in the city, and there are even dog parks for our pups,” Chris said.
