The Moores move from East Texas to Elyson to be near their growing number of grandchildren
With both of their grown daughters living in the Houston area, and with yet another grandchild on the way, Monica and Steven Moore decided it was time to leave their longtime home in East Texas and move closer to their growing family.
“We finally realized the kids were not coming back to Lindale, and the grandbabies were coming quickly, so we decided to leave our hometown and make the move to Houston,” said Monica.
After making the big decision to relocate, everything fell into place for Monica and Steven, and they quickly found the perfect new Perry home in Elyson.
The Moores were already familiar with the Houston area, having visited their daughters and their families many times.
“We kept coming across Elyson in our travels, and we really liked the amenities and the location. One of our daughters lives in Katy and the other lives in Spring, and Elyson is very accessible to both,” said Monica. “The traffic pattern along the Grand Parkway makes a lot of sense to me.”
Their oldest daughter, Jami, and husband Jeff are expecting their second child early in 2025.
Daughter Kaci and husband Garrett live in Katy, with their first child.
Kaci is a teacher in Cy-Fair ISD, and Jami teaches in Conroe ISD.
In fact, the entire family has been long immersed in education.
Monica was an elementary school principal in Lindale ISD for 21 years, before retiring five years ago.
Steven was band director at Lindale High School for 34 years before stepping down in 2024.
While their growing family keeps them very busy, neither Monica nor Steven are settling into full retirement mode.
Monica is a real estate agent with CB&A Realtors, a new career she began about three years ago in Lindale, and she’s continuing to work out of the company’s northwest Houston office.
Steven is a tour consultant for Kaleidoscope Adventures, which plans trips for choirs, bands and other school groups. He is also executive director of the National Association of Military Marching Bands.
Wanting to downsize to a one-story home, the Moores chose Perry’s Design 2188, featuring an open living area, a covered patio, and thoughtful touches such as a walk-in pantry, mud room and walk-in closets in all four bedrooms. It has tall ceilings ranging from 10-12 feet in most rooms.
“This was the home we wanted, and it was already completed, so the timing was perfect. Khalil Saad with Perry was fantastic to work with,” Monica said.
There’s even more good news. Shortly after the Moores moved into their new home in Elyson, they moved Steven’s mother into a new home nearby, making for four generations of family now living close.
