10 fun Katy attractions for every member of the family
With special events like Food Truck Friday and Party in the Park, Elyson has plenty of entertainment options for residents to enjoy right at home. There’s also freeform fun at Elyson’s amenities, whether it’s gathering friends around the fire at Union Park or Lakeside Landing, or watching a game on the patio at Elyson House.
For even more fun, Katy has a growing number of activities for every member of the family to enjoy, from a plethora of golf-related venues, to romantic restaurants and wine bars.
Some of these attractions are right here in Elyson, and some are even owned and operated by Elyson residents. Others are just a few miles away in the booming Katy area, because nobody likes to fight traffic to get to fun.
Here’s our top 10 list of family-friendly activities and attractions in Katy. Like the area itself, this list is always growing, so we’ll keep an eye out for exciting new additions.
Katy Asian Town. Get a taste and experience of Asia close to home with Katy Asian Town. This multicultural culinary wonderland is anchored by H-Mart, a Texas-sized Asian supermarket brimming with fresh produce, meat and seafood, and unique condiments and snacks you’d have to travel overseas to find. H-Mart also has a food court, with standouts including the French-Asian bakery, Tous Les Jours. Katy Asian Town has much more, with over 60 tenants offering foods and beverages ranging from the sweet to spicy. There’s even a Japanese bookstore.
Andretti Indoor Karting & Games. One of Katy’s most thrilling family attractions, Andretti Katy offers games, rides, dining and much more under one roof. Electric karts offer the thrill of instant acceleration around hairpin turns and long straightaways on climate-controlled tracks. Other activities include arcade games, Hologate virtual reality games, laser tag and mini golf. The Food Truck Plaza offers a variety of flavors along with full-service dining and a bar.
Hop to Katy’s Beer Scene. Katy’s own craft brewery, No Label Brewing Co. pioneered a thriving beer culture that includes relative newcomers like Katy Beer Garden, which describes itself as where “the vibrant Texas spirit meets Bavarian charm.” Located in the shadow of an historic rice silo in Old Katy, Katy Beer Garden is kid- and dog-friendly, with beers, cocktails and food trucks. Also located near silos in Old Katy, No Label is open daily and offers brewery tours. With 13 years and 62 awards under their belt, this kid-friendly brewpub has a playground and a regular rotation of food trucks and live music.
Home Run Dugout. A brilliant idea out of left field, Katy’s Home Run Dugout offers 22 indoor baseball/softball cages, or simulated Batting Bays, that are perfect for family entertainment and team building. They also have an outdoor patio and full menu. At night, baseball and music come together, with DJs, live music, glowing lights and late-night batting specials. The ground-up pitching machines are easy to hit, making this a fun adventure for everyone from 6-year-olds to grandparents.
Golf galore. If golf is your game, Katy swings big, with growing number of public golf courses and golf-related entertainment venues. One of the newest, X-Golf Katy, is owned by Elyson residents Chris Pena and Joe Chaisson. It has 8 golf bays with some of the industry’s most advanced simulator technology, along with a full food menu, beers, cocktails and more. Top Golf – Katy offers year-round comfort with more than 100 all-weather golfing bays, a rooftop terrace with firepits, a bar and restaurant. For fans of mini golf, there’s PopStroke Katy, with two 18-hole mini golf courses and a full-service restaurant. Monster Mini Golf has mini golf plus gaming, bowling, laser maze and virtual reality. Should fancy some IRL golf, there are many excellent public courses near Elyson, including The Golf Club at Cinco Ranch (our sister community) and Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club.
For kids (and the young at heart). Katy has exhilarating attractions for kids, including Slick City Action Park, offering giant indoor dry air slides for a safe and thrilling descent. There are 10 unique experiences, from the twisty Python to the rollicking Big Wave. Altitude Trampoline Park and Urban Air Adventure Park will have kids jumping with gravity-defying trampolines and other attractions such as rock-climbing and digital experiences. Main Event has gravity ropes, bowling, games and billiards, along with food and beverages.
Typhoon Texas. Located next to the landmark Katy Mills Mall, Typhoon Texas bills itself as the Houston area’s premier waterpark destination, with nine thrilling attractions such as Lazy T River, Buckaroo Bayou, Tidal Wave Bay and the Gully Washer. Food and drink are offered, and cabanas are coming for the 2025 season for an enhanced experience.
Katy Mills Mall. One of Houston’s biggest and best malls, Katy Mills is home to over 175 stores such as Bass Pro Shops, H&M, Off Fifth Saks Fifth Avenue and Restoration Hardware. It also has entertainment options including the AMC Katy Mills 20. Dining is a big draw too, with restaurants including The Cheesecake Factory and Rainforest Café. Its sister mall, Houston Premium Outlets, is also convenient to Elyson, located at the Grand Parkway and U.S. Highway 290.
Date Night in Elyson. With the growing number of eateries and drinkeries in Elyson, it’s possible to have a romantic date night without leaving the community. Cork It Katy is an intimate wine bar offering carefully curated selections from around the world, along with charcuterie boards, small bites and Wine Club memberships. Open until 8 p.m. (except Sundays), Alchemy Bake Lab specializes in mini desserts that sparkle like jewels, along with savory mini bites. For a special experience, you can sign up for a baking class or reserve the space for a private event. Scholars & Scoundrels is a locally owned restaurant and bar that’s been hailed by the Katy Times and Houston Chronicle. They have a late-night bar serving craft cocktails and beers.
Unique parks. From Elyson Commons at Bear Creek to Lakeside Landing, Elyson has plenty of parks for residents to enjoy. But when you want to adventure a little further afield, we can recommend some unique Katy parks, including Mary Jo Peckham Park, fondly called the “park for all children.” This 32-acre green space has basketball courts, an aquatic and fitness center, a putting green and mini golf course, playground, six-hole disc golf course and one-mile trail. TripAdvisor ranks it No. 1 on their list of things to see and do in Katy. Other great Katy parks include 876-acre John Paul Landing Park, where a 176-acre lake (circled by a 7.8-mile trail) makes fishing the main attraction. Exploration Park in Cinco Ranch has an immersive public playground with an overall theme inspired by water.
