Chesmar’s Suite Retreat is a sweet idea for multigenerational families
Chesmar’s new Sweetwater model home in Elyson shows a livable and practical idea for multigenerational households, whether it’s an older parent living with the family or a young adult at home.
Called the Suite Retreat, this clever solution to today’s diverse family dynamics includes a living room and a full-sized bedroom with a walk-in closet and full bath. The retreat can be closed off to create a private living suite within the home, and the double doors can be opened up to the rest of the home when desired.
The Suite Retreat is an included feature in the Sweetwater and is optional on other plans in Chesmar’s brand-new collection of designs for 60-foot homesites in Elyson. Prices range from the mid $500Ks to $600Ks.
The idea for the Suite Retreat came from a personal experience lived by Chesmar’s vice president of design, Jana Blackburn.
“My parents moved in with me temporarily after their home flooded, I came to better understand the need of having separate spaces for different generations and family members, so you can each have places to retreat to,” she said. “This flexible suite retreat space can be opened up when entertaining and you need more space, or closed off for more privacy of the various family members. It is a great solution for larger families.”
With the number of multigenerational households rising in the United States, features such as the Suite Retreat are getting a warm welcome from many homebuyers. Nearly 60 million U.S. residents live with multiple generations under one roof, according to a 2021 Pew Research Center analysis of census data.
The Suite Retreat is just one of many outstanding features in the Sweetwater model.
We also love the light-filled family room, which has a cathedral ceiling, a modern horizontal fireplace with floor-to-ceiling tile, and sliding glass doors opening to the covered patio.
The kitchen has a huge table island, a walk-in pantry and plenty of cabinet and countertop space.
This model home displays an optional pocket office off the kitchen, complete with a corner desk, built-in cabinets and shelving. Ideal for planning or homework, this office is next to the drop zone and laundry room, creating a family-friendly everyday entry from the garage.
The study provides another home office space in this one-story, four-bedroom plan.
The primary suite has a spacious bedroom area, with an optional sliding barn door opening to a luxurious main bath with a huge walk-in closet.
Designed for flexibility, the Sweetwater has a two-car garage with a large storage area that can be built as a third garage bay.
Out back, the covered patio has the same dramatic ceiling lines as the family room, with windows above the sliding glass doors to let in even more natural light. The model home displays the optional outdoor kitchen and an open patio area with a firepit.
