Katy Area Chamber president and his family choose Elyson for their new home

As president of the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, Matthew Ferraro’s job is to convince companies that Katy is the best corporate home.

For their own family, Matthew and wife Lauren decided that Elyson was the best place to call home.

With a newly blended family that includes four sons under the age of 7, the Ferraros needed more space.

They considered a number of communities in the Katy area, and they debated between choosing a homesite and building from the ground up, or purchasing a completed new home that was ready to move into.

Matthew was already very familiar with Elyson, as the Chamber had hosted several events at Elyson House and other locations in the community.

One evening, after a Business After Hours mixer at Elyson’s Model Home Village, Matthew drove around the community before heading home.

“My first impression was, ‘wow.’ I thought Elyson was a very nice community, and I could see myself living in someday,” he said.

When life events brought the family’s home search to the forefront, they kept coming back to Elyson.

With many boxes to check for what they needed in a new home, the Ferraros went from “hesitant” to “ready to pull the trigger” when they came across the new Cambridge plan offered by Highland Homes in Elyson.

The Cambridge was so new that one had not yet been completed, but they found one in the framing stage in a nearby location. After walking the plan to get a feel for the space, they decided it would work for their family, especially since Highland was willing to customize it for them. The Cambridge plan is shown in these representative photos; they are not of the family’s actual home.

The primary bedroom suite is downstairs, along with a guest bedroom suite. The youngest sons, the twins, share the largest upstairs bedroom, and the older boys each have their own room.

They turned the downstairs entertainment room into a home office, making it slightly smaller so they could enlarge the pantry and mud room – two musts for their large and active family.

Education was another priority for the Ferraro family, and Matthew and Lauren are both very familiar with the excellence of the highly regarded Katy Independent School District.

Lauren works for Katy ISD, where she’s been a teacher and instructional coach. Matthew has long seen the district’s strong pull for families and businesses.

“Thanks to the reputation of Katy ISD, I don’t have to work that hard,” he laughs. “So much of the growth and development that happens organically in the Katy area is attributable to Katy ISD. The Katy Freeway and Grand Parkway area around Elyson is growing tremendously with food and entertainment, as well as manufacturing and distribution.”
