Katy has a well-deserved reputation as a great place to live, thanks to the excellence of the schools in the Katy Independent School District and our thriving economy.
Katy also has a fun side, as you can see from our Top 10 picks for activities for residents and visitors of all ages. If we left out one of your favorite things to do in Katy, please add it in the comments.
Andretti Indoor Karting & Games. One of Katy’s newest family attractions, Andretti Katy offers games, rides, dining and much more under one roof. Electric karts offer the thrill of instant acceleration around hairpin turns and long straightaways on climate-controlled tracks. Other activities include arcade games, Hologate virtual reality games, laser tag and mini golf. The Food Truck Plaza offers a variety of flavors along with full-service dining and a bar.
Katy Mills Mall. One of Houston’s biggest and best malls, Katy Mills is home to over 175 stores such as Bass Pro Shops, H&M, Neiman Marcus Last Call and Restoration Hardware. It also has entertainment options including the AMC Katy Mills 20. Its sister mall, Houston Premium Outlets, is also convenient to Elyson, located at the Grand Parkway and U.S. Highway 290.
John Paul Landing Park. Fishing is the main attraction at this 850-acre park, less than four miles from Elyson. The 150-acre lake is stocked with bass, catfish, crappie and sunfish. Other attractions include trails, playgrounds and picnic pavilions. An environmental education center is planned to open this year.
Central Green. The fun focal point amid all of the shopping, dining and entertainment choices offered in LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, Central Green hosts free activities throughout the year, including live music concerts, outdoor movies and fitness programs.
No Label Brewery. Katy’s own craft brewery, No Label Brewing Co. is open daily and offers brewery tours, where you can taste popular brews including El Hefe and Ridgeback Ale. This kid-friendly brewpub has a playground and a regular rotation of food trucks and live music. Check the calendar on their website. You can rent the brewery for a private event. Beer to go is also available.
Farm Fresh. Katy offers many opportunities to select your own farm-fresh produce and meet the growers, some of whom are local families. HG Produce sells fresh-from-the-garden fruits and veggies from their front yard, grown in a nearby garden. Hours are Saturdays from 9-3 and Sundays from 10-3. The Farmers' Market on Grand Parkway is open Saturday mornings from 8-12 in Katy.
Pappa Gyro’s. We almost hate to let the word get out on Pappa Gyros, a hidden treasure located just a couple of miles from Elyson. But it was bound to happen anyway, especially since Yelp named it the No. 1 place to dine in the Houston area in 2019. Yelp also ranked it No. 3 in Texas and No. 12 in the nation. Once you taste their delicious gyros and hot dogs, you’ll understand why.
Trampoline Parks. Trampolining is a fun way to lose weight, keep fit, and improve everything from oxygen circulation to lymphatic flow. Katy offers a growing number of trampoline parks, including Altitude, offering 120 trampolines, a high-flying trapeze, gymnastic tumble tracks, two extreme dodgeball courts, a 20-foot-high three-sided rock wall, and a kiddie area. Jumpstreet, located inside Katy Mill Malls, offers a similar array of attractions. Katy’s newest trampoline park, Urban Air, offers indoor skydiving, a ropes course, climbing walls, “wipeout” and “warrior” courses and an indoor playground.
Mary Jo Peckham Park. One of Katy’s most popular public parks, Mary Jo Peckham Park offers fishing in a stocked lake, a putt-putt golf course, trails, and picnic facilities. The Aquatic & Fitness Center offers indoor swimming and classes such as Zumba.
