Elyson residents can pick fresh fruit and pecans at community orchards
Elyson is honoring the agricultural heritage of the Katy Prairie by planting several community orchards, where residents will be able to harvest fruit and nuts during the year.
Initially located along Elyson Boulevard and Elyson Falls Drive, near the Elyson House and Model Home Village, the first orchards will have pecan and orange trees.
Surrounded by farm-style fencing, and planted in formal arrangements, these orchards will be easily recognizable to residents, who will be welcome to harvest and enjoy.
Coming soon, other orchards adjacent to Elyson Hollow Drive will feature lemon, orange, and fig trees.
Initial harvests are expected to be modest, but as the trees become established, they’ll soon provide fresh homegrown ingredients for pecan pies, fruit smoothies and other favorite recipes enjoyed by Elyson residents.
